Our Consulting Approach
Our Consulting Approach
Klean Consulting works to a sequence rather than a template. Every assignment moves through the same four stages, but the depth given to each depends entirely on what the client needs to decide and how much reliable information already exists.
One: Establish the Baseline
We start by measuring. For waste assignments that means physical characterisation — what the stream contains, in what proportions, with what seasonal variation and what contamination. For energy and resource assignments it means metered consumption against production. For institutional assignments it means mapping who holds which obligation and under what instrument. Assumptions carried forward from an earlier study are flagged as assumptions, not restated as fact.
Two: Define the Real Constraints
Options are then tested against the constraints that will actually bind: regulatory obligations, available land, grid or offtake access, tariff and budget limits, labour conditions, and the terms of contracts already in force. A great many recommendations fail here, and it is far cheaper to discover that in week three than in year three.
Three: Narrow and Cost the Options
Surviving options are costed on a comparable basis — capital, operating cost, revenue where applicable, and the sensitivities that matter most. We present ranges and the drivers behind them rather than single-point figures that imply a precision nobody has. Where the group's own engineering experience is relevant to throughput, uptime or commissioning risk, we bring it in explicitly and say that we have done so.
Four: Make It Implementable
A recommendation is only finished when someone can act on it. That usually means contract language, a procurement route, a phasing plan, a staffing and training requirement, or a monitoring regime with defined reporting. Our contractual arrangements and financial management audit practices exist precisely so that the last mile does not get dropped.
What Clients Get
Deliverables include the underlying dataset, the model with its assumptions exposed, and a findings document written for the people who have to implement it. We keep reports short and the appendices complete. Where we are uncertain, we say where the uncertainty sits and what would resolve it.
We do not recommend technology we cannot justify from the baseline, and we are willing to conclude that the right answer is to improve existing operations rather than build something new.
How We Scope and Price
Engagements are defined by deliverable and decision, not by an open-ended retainer. We state what will be produced, what data we need from the client, what we will gather ourselves, and what the work will cost before it begins.

Baseline first, constraints second, costed options third, implementation last — the sequence is what keeps recommendations from falling apart after handover.
